  1. HOUSE HELP FILE ONLY (HELP.EXE is not available at this time.)

  4. HOW TO USE HOUSE:
  5.  
  6. The buttons ICON,S,M,L,^^^,<,>
  7. Can be used anytime to make HOUSE
  8. small, medium, large, thin,
  9. narrower, wider,etc.
  10.  
  11.  
  12. NOTICE that after you press a button,
  13. the MENUBOX in the CENTER of your HOUSE
  14. has a new menu that ALSO contains
  15. controls that could size, move, etc. 
  16.  
  17. EACH TIME YOU CLICK A BUTTON
  18. you select a MODE, which
  19. in turn selects a different
  20. MENU in the MENUBOX (CENTER SCREEN).
  21.  
  22. To use a MENUBOX FUNCTION, click
  23. the abbreviated LABEL portion of
  24. the display in the menu box, such as
  25. LMB - for Left Menu Bar.
  26.  
  27. Just MOVING your Mouse OVER
  28. the boxes changes the messages you see...
  29. indicating what the MENUBOX FUNCTION will do if
  30. you CLICK it.
  31.  
  32. Some MENUBOX Functions are nested more than
  33. one LAYER deep, which only means that
  34. sometimes, SELECTING A MENUBOX FUNCTION
  35. might only CALL-UP a 'deeper' MENUBOX, 
  36. containing 'sub functions.'
  37.  
  38. After using some functions
  39. You MAY NEED to RE-CLICK
  40. the BUTTONS to reselect
  41. the MODE you want to use,
  42. such as MENU or FILES mode.
  43. Just 'seeing a file list'
  44. doesn't mean you are always
  45. in FILE mode.
  46.  
  47. WHAT ABOUT HELP!
  48.  
  49. Help is available within the MENUBOX FUNCTIONS
  50. for some modes, meaning you have ON-LINE help.
  51. Also, NOTICE the TOP WINDOW for MESSAGES.
  52. Many functions will display HELP along the way
  53. at the top of the HOUSE.
  54. It's easy to find 'good help these days'...
  55. THE HOUSE-HELP' like to party on the roof!
  56.  
  57. Once you press HELP, help mode is activated,
  58. which means a few additional messages will
  59. POP UP as you mouse around. They appear just once,
  60. and you can disable them by
  61. clicking the CPU window, then typing   d  .
  62.

  64. YES, but how does this thing work? 
  65.  
  66.  
  67. HOUSE keeps one menu on-board, with up to 200 programs.
  68. You can easily load others by DOUBLE-CLICKING
  69. their name, (HOUSE.hse, YOUR.HSE, etc)
  70. in a FILE LISTING. 
  71.  
  72. By DOUBLE CLICKING any LIST, you will activate
  73. the function of the list! So, menus launch menu
  74. programs, file lists launch files, etc..all
  75. with a DOUBLE CLICK!  REMEMBER THAT!
  76.  
  77. You can DOUBLE CLICK the TOP WINDOW
  78. to DIRECTLY LAUNCH MENU programs.
  79.  
  80. So....that's what you do...DOUBLE CLICK!
  81. Select a BUTTON/MODE, such as FILES, then
  82. LAUNCH DIRECTLY from the FILE LIST, or
  83. use MENUBOX FUNCTIONS to do things like
  84. delete, copy, get info, etc!

  87. THERE ARE FAR TOO MANY FUNCTIONS TO DOCUMENT
  88. HERE!  YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN!...but NEVER FEAR,
  89. HOUSE is VERY SMART and has "ARE YOU SURE??"
  90. messages WHEN YOU NEED THEM!

  92. DOUBLE CLICK with confidence because it is SAFE
  93. to do so....EXPLORE HOUSE...it's fun to use,
  94. and easy.  It EVEN HAS PASSWORD protection that
  95. allows you to LOCK your HOUSE..except for the
  96. current menu! That way YOU decide WHICH programs
  97. your Kiddo's are using...

  100. Menus are easy to use, and ADDING ITEMS TO YOUR MENU
  101. is easy too.  Using the FILE LIST, select any file
  102. or program and CLICK - ADD in the MENUBOX.
  103. It's THAT easy!  Your file is NOW a MENU ITEM!

  109. How to "Get Around"
  110.  
  111.  It can be a little tricky at first...here's what to do.
  112.   
  113.  The FASTEST way to move your HOUSE around is by CLICKING
  114.  the MOVING SQUARES--to the right of the main buttons.
  115.  The moving squares represent NINE screen positions...
  116.  the four corners, and center positions of your screen.
  117.  A single click on any square places your HOUSE in a 
  118.  similar position to the square in the box. 
  119.  
  120.  You can also press the button "P". (PLACEMENT)
  121.  This is a more traditional way of moving Windows
  122.  ...using A MENU bar to drag HOUSE to some 
  123.  point on your screen.
  124.  
  125.  You will soon notice that HOUSE does NOT let you move
  126.  to a position off--screen.  HOUSE normally corrects for 
  127.  'overshoots' of the edges.  In other words, HOUSE will
  128.  always pick an address that's on your screen!"

  131.  CLICKING the HOUSE.FORM to SIZE it...... 
  132.  
  133.  It takes some getting used to, but
  134.  clicking  around the form, especially BETWEEN the JUMP
  135.  buttons at the BOTTOM of your screen will change
  136.  the size of your House...you'll see how things work
  137.  with a little practice.  All modes, except CITY mode,
  138.  will size HOUSE when a FORM.CLICK occurs.  Try clicking
  139.  the edges of the HOUSE too. 
  140.  
  141.  If you just want a FEW MORE LINES OF YOUR LISTS,
  142.  click the VERY BOTTOM of the HOUSE, usually
  143.  BETWEEN the DIR.JUMP and FILE.JUMP buttons.
  144.  The amount of EXTRA HEIGHT you get is related to the 
  145.  CURRENT FONTSIZE.

  149.  MEMORIZED POSITIONS:
  150.  
  151.  Once your HOUSE is the way you want it...
  152.  CLICK the SET button and then click DEC & MEM to STORE
  153.  your layout.  (MENUBOX) 
  154.  
  155.  HOUSE can store/recall up your layouts.
  156.  Your screen position, HOUSE size, Window colors
  157.  and Font sizes are stored for later recall.
  158.  To recall..the sequence is SET-DEC-DO-.

  161. **UNDERSTANDING THE MAIN BUTTONS********
  162.

  165.     These buttons can help you size & place your HOUSE.
  166.     Icon = Make House as small as possible.
  167.     S = Make HOUSE very small, but not an ICON.
  168.     M = Make House Medium sized.
  169.     L = Make House LARGE.
  170.     P = PLACE/MOVE House manually.  
  171.         NOTE: Clicking the CPU Window (Blinking Squares)
  172.             will place/move HOUSE very rapidly..try it!
  173.     ^^^ Toggles between THIN and NORMAL HOUSE Height.
  174.             Think of this as the door to the ROOF if
  175.         you like! 
  176.     <  Makes HOUSE Narrower
  177.     >  Makes HOUSE WIDER
  178.  
  179.  RUN:     In SMALL-Menu-Mode this button runs the current HOUSE MENU item.    
  180.     In ALL other modes (bigger sizes) this button allows
  181.     you to set the WINDOW STATE for the next launch of programs.
  182.         You can also RUN the menu program or currently selected
  183.     file by clicking !M  or !F in the MENU BOX. (Center)  
  184.  
  185. SET:    
  186.       Decorate: 
  187.              DO - Recalls one of FOUR Sets of Colors, Fonts,
  188.          & Screen Positions from Memory.
  189.         (Redecorates your HOUSE from memory!)
  190.          MEM - Memorizes your current HOUSE colors,
  191.         Font Size, and Screen Location.
  192.     Color: (TOP RM INF MNU DIR EXT HSE ?)
  193.         Allows you to change the colors of the various
  194.             display lists, info Windows & more, within HOUSE itself.
  195.         ? = Help (Explains how to change colors) 
  196.     Font:  SML SM MED ML L VL XL BLD Chg
  197.         HOUSE lets you set new Font Sizes or CHANGE Font Types.
  198.         (Does not affect system fonts. You would use the 
  199.                   Control Panel to do that.)
  200.     PSW: Allows you CHANGE the CURRENT PASSWORD for THIS SESSION! 
  201.     SYS: Shows free system resources, Free RAM, GDI, USER. 
  202.     TIM: Toggles the CLOCK in the upper right, on or off.
  203.          (The clock can be DRAGGED to new locations.)    
  204.     CPU: Toggles the 'thinking lights' on or off! Those dizzy
  205.          little blinking squares! 
  206.          (Quick Placement Window still works, regardless.)
  207.     GRB: GRAB...Makes HOUSE 'come out on top' if MOUSE passes over it.
  208.          On/Off toggle. 
  209.          When GRAB is ON, (Default) HOUSE will grab
  210.          the FOCUS anytime your mouse passes over the form.
  211. **!!!**    END: END HOUSE Session..quit the program....board up the HOUSE!
  212.              REMEMBER TO QUIT....the command is
  213.              SET-END 
  214.     
  215. CITY:    Draw colorful cities automatically!  Just move your MOUSE AROUND!    
  216.     MOD: Sets the PEN color-logic for drawing.  AND NOT OR XOR INVERT & More
  217.     OBJECTS:  Choose from
  218.           TRE Trees
  219.           BLD Buildings  LWR Low Rise Buildings
  220.           RF  Roof or hills
  221.           CLd Clouds
  222.                   Sqr Little Squares
  223.     CLR: Clears (ERASES) your picture!
  224.     Lnd: Creates a landscape background effect..erases current drawing!
  225.            (Best with SVGA and 32K-colors mode. Choose a BRIGHT Background First.)    
  226.       N: Normal..temporary drawing mode. No cut & paste.
  227.       P: Permanent drawing - paste mode.  Allows cut & paste.
  228.     Clp: Copies House drawing to the clipboard.
  229.             
  230.       DRAWING ACTION is activated (ON/OFF) by your MOUSE CLICKS.!!!

  233.   OH:    OPEN HOUSE!!!  RUN up to 20 programs/files at once!
  234.      LOAD ANY SMALL    HOUSE and you can use OH to launch
  235.      the ENTIRE MENU as an OPEN HOUSE.      
  236.  
  237. AGAIN:    
  238.     SAV: Save a list to--disk of the programs & files you have
  239.          been using...up to 100.  Logs the time you used them too.
  240.     DEL: Removes a single item from your on-board launch-log.
  241.     DM: Remove ALL launch-log items BEFORE the 
  242.         currently selected item...(Erases your tracks...)
  243.  
  244. MENU:    GET: Load a new HOUSE menu.
  245.     SAV: Save the current menu to disk.
  246.     RM:  Remove an ITEM (Room) from your HOUSE menu.
  247.     SRT: A fast way to sort the menu.
  248.     ADD: Add ON additional Rooms by merging-in a new House menu.
  249.     NEW: Start a new menu from the ground up......
  250.     DUP: Duplicate a menu item...clone a room.
  251.     CLR: Clears the menu item Commandline (furniture!)              
  252.              info passed to the program at run-time.
  253.          Of COURSE..you CAN edit your MOUSE menu directly
  254.          by clicking your mouse inside any of the TEXT boxes!        
  255.     FND: Where is HOME?  Hansel, Gretel, and HOUSE all know!
  256.              But only HOUSE will take you there.
  257. DIR:    MAK: Make a directory on disk.  Otherwise known as a hallway!
  258.     REM: Remove a directory from disk.    
  259.     CPY: Copy the FILENAMES, DATES & SIZES to a record-file
  260.          on disk.  Only INFO is recorded, not the files themselves.
  261.          Think of it as a PHOTOCOPY of the current directory listing
  262.          but with more info.
  263.     SRT: Shows the file list in order of file EXTENSIONS.
  264.  
  265. FILES:    ADD: Adds the currently selected FILE or program to your HOUSE MENU!.
  266.          HOUSE chooses HOSTS when needed, but you can change them if
  267.          you like...just click on the menu info-window text & 'edit away'.        
  268.     PUT: Puts the currently selected file in the COMMANDLINE
  269.          of the CURRENT menu item.  Like furniture in a room,
  270.          this info compliments' the room. You could PUT a file
  271.          called pic.bmp into a room with PAINTBRUSH...then
  272.          it would run with PIC.BMP already loaded.
  273.     SIZ: Shows file date & size for the currently selected file.
  274.      CPY: Allows you to copy files. TAKE your time here!
  275.          HOUSE is rather 'unusual' in the way it copies! 
  276.          Once you 'get the hang of it' you may find it VERY useful!  
  277.          'I' Like it!  
  278.              The file names are 'cached' so you can easily copy a big list
  279.              of programs to several places, without re-loading
  280.              the file names.  Just remember to CLEAR them when you should.    
  281.     DEL: Delete 1 file at a time, or ALL in the current listing!
  282.          Both have 'ARE YOU SURE?'..of course!    
  283.     REN: Rename a file.
  284.     REF: REFRESH the current file listing.  This is done by HOUSE
  285.          most of the time..but when you need to...it's a quick way
  286.          to get an updated files listing.

  289. DOUBLE CLICK ANY FILE LIST TO LAUNCH a program, file, picture, macro 
  290.  or any other program/sourcefile.
  291.  HOST programs are determined by HOUSE. Double click the HOST-LIST
  292.  for more info on editing HOST files.

  294. DOUBLE CLICKING an EXTENSION LIST will allow you to ENTER A CUSTOM
  295.  file pattern.  Such as *.* or more elaborately...  House.*; H*.hse;Names*.??  
  296.  In other words..compound filters can be entered...separated by SEMI-COLONS.
